2 Glentauchers tasted between 1.4.2008-28.5.2011

Glentauchers 11yo 1985-1996 43% Signatory for Thurso & District Round Table

An IB bottling for a private company from a distillery rarely bottled as single malt. Intense bourbon on the nose, a bit grassy and spirity. Very sweet, lots of honey mustard, and some grapefruit. These notes of honey mustard are really appetizing, something to have before dinner? The aftertaste is a bit burning, but not too much. It's a nicely balanced malt, just lacks a bit complexity. The honey mustard palate alone gives this an honourable score in my book.

A flavoursome youngster, one to start with: 6.5

Glentauchers 19yo 1979-1998 40% Gordon & MacPhail

Another little rarity from G&M tonight. Very spirity and pungent odors, reminds me of strong potato spirit. Perhaps a reason why it isn't bottled that much as a single? It's has also a very strong taste, once again aqua vitae scandinavian style, oatmeal, fish scales, oil stain and flushing fluid.

Horrible stuff: 2
